Korean BBQ Beef Bowl

A delicious bowl of marinated beef, rice, and vegetables with a sweet and savory sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Marinade

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine all marinade ingredients and mix well
  2. Add beef slices to the marinade and let sit for 15-20 minutes
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over high heat
  4. Cook marinated beef for 2-3 minutes per side until browned
  5. Remove beef from pan and let rest for 5 minutes
  6. Slice beef against the grain into thin strips
  7. Assemble bowls with rice, beef, and vegetables
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions

Notes

  • For best results, freeze the beef for 30 minutes before slicing to make it easier to cut thin
  • You can substitute the beef with chicken or tofu for a vegetarian version
  • The marinade can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week
  • Serve with kimchi and gochujang for extra flavor
